The Lowther Arms is a traditional country pub in the heart of Mawbray village, close to the sea on the Solway Plain in north-west Cumbria. Set in peaceful countryside and Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty within Hadrian’s Wall World Heritage Site Buffer Zone, we are surrounded by stunning views of the Lakes and Scotland.
Although tenanted, the Lowther Arms is a cooperative and community-owned pub, saved from permanent closure and conversion to a house by the local community and over 300 shareholders.
After being closed for two and a half years, the pub re-opened in June 2021, and is now more than a pub – offering a comfortable place to have a drink, enjoy a meal, meet with friends, or simply a quiet corner to read in. Whether you are a local, a visitor, walker, or cyclist, come and relax in our lovely pub with its beer garden and stunning views of the Lake District.
Our 4-pitch caravan site is open and booking is highly advisable. We have 3 pitches for tourers and motorhomes, a Pod, plus camping.
Well-behaved dogs are welcome in the bar, conservatory and beer garden.
We look forward to seeing you!
This weekend (Friday and Saturday) is our tapas nights and we will stop serving general food at 3pm both days to allow us to prepare for the evenings.

N.B we are completely fully booked for both nights but you are welcome to pop down to join us for our live music on Saturday after 8.30pm with the brilliant talent that is Jackson Jane - music ... See MoreSee Less

We are open all day and serving food from 12-8pm today. Booking advisable as always but we do have plenty of seating in the beer garden to take advantage of the sun (while it lasts)!

Exciting news…
Our new Summer 2024 menu will be going live from Wednesday 1st May!
We will be keeping some of the favourites and adding some new exciting dishes to tickle those taste buds.
Fresh and local is the theme of this menu with beautiful fresh fish delivered daily and of course meat from our excellent butcher Mulholland Butchers!
We can’t wait to share this menu with you all but for now we are staying tight lipped about it until 1st.
Be the first to try it by booking a table. ... See MoreSee Less

Unfortunately not. We will be keeping our current pies from our butchers who make them fresh everyday. Logistically we are unable to make our own in house due to the fact we sell so many and the space we have in our kitchen. All other dishes are/will be made fresh as always so we found the best pies we could and they go down very well with our customers.
We hope you will offer breakfasts in the summer.
Great spot! Great food, friendly and close on the coast for a beach walk
